is a large state - however:
the entire population is well under one million people and we have a large number of people in the service.
Both in the active and the reserves.
Sadly, we have also had our losses.

Timothy J. Hutton, 21,
of Dillon, Mont.
Timothy died Aug. 4 2008
of injuries suffered in a non-combat related incident.
He was assigned to the 54th Engineer Battalion,
18th Engineer Brigade,
Bamberg, Germany
Army Sgt.
James A. McHale, 31,
of Fairfield, Mont.,
James died July 30, 2008 at the National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Md., of wounds suffered July 22, 2008 in Taji, Iraq,
when his vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device.
He was assigned to the 40th Engineer Battalion,
2nd Brigade Combat Team,
1st Armored Division, Baumholder, Germany

Andrew. R. Pearson, 32,
of Billings, Mont.
Andrew died April 30, 2008 in Baghdad, Iraq,
from wounds suffered when his vehicle
encountered an improvised explosive device.
He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment,
1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division,
Fort Hood, Texas.

Shawn David Gillespie, 27
buried - Hardin, MT
Shawn died March 24, 2008, while on active duty.
He had just re-enlisted for another six years.
Shawn was a very dedicated soldier and had been involved
in 93 tours both stateside and overseas.

of Conway, Ark., (family / Bonner, MT)
Michael died Jan. 22, 2008, in Kirkuk, Iraq,
of injuries sustained in a vehicle accident during convoy operations. He was assigned to the 431st Civil Affairs Battalion,
U.S. Army Civil Affairs & Psychological Operations Command (Airborne), Fort Bragg, N.C.
Army Pvt. Daren A. Smith, 19,
of Helena, Montana
Daren died Dec. 13 2007, in Baghdad, Iraq,
of wounds sustained from a non-combat related incident.
He was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 89th Cavalry Regiment,
4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division
(Light Infantry), Fort Polk, La.

Yance T. Gray, 26
Ismay, Mont.
Yance died Sept. 10 2007 in Baghdad, Iraq,
of injuries suffered from a non-combat related vehicle rollover.
He was assigned to the 1st Squadron,
73rd Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team,
82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.

Donald died Aug. 8 2007 in Baghdad, Iraq,

Travis died June 1 2007
in Al Yusufiyah, Iraq, when an improvised explosive
device detonated near his unit.
Atkins was assigned to the 2nd Battalion,
14th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team,
10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), Fort Drum, N.Y.

Great Falls, Mont.
Michael died May 10, 2007, in Baghdad, Iraq,
of injuries suffered when an improvised
explosive device detonated near his HMMWV
during combat operations.
He was assigned to the 1st Brigade Special Troops Battalion,
1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division,
Fort Bragg, N.C.

Philipsburg, Mont.
Kyle died April 10 2007 in Baghdad, Iraq,
of wounds sustained when his vehicle
hit an improvised explosive device.
He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion,
12th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team,
2nd Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colo.

Shane died April 3, 2007, in Baghdad, Iraq,
when his unit came in contact with enemy forces using

Casey was a helicopter gunner for Blackwater Security
and a former U.S. Army Ranger / Iraq
He died in January, 2007

Scott died Dec. 20, 2006 in Baghdad, Iraq, of injuries suffered
from an improvised explosive device.
He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division, Fort Richardson, Alaska.

Camp Pendleton, Calif

25th Infantry Division, Fort Richardson, Alaska.

Detachment 0618 in Billings, Montana

of Chinook, Mont.,
Jeremy died Oct. 8, 2006 from wounds received
while conducting combat operations against enemy forces
in Al Anbar province, Iraq.
He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment,
3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force,
Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii

Phillip died on July 29 2006
during combat operations in Anbar province, Iraq.

He was assigned to the 54th Engineer Battalion, 130th Engineer Brigade, Warner Barracks, Bamberg, Germany.

3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia.

Twentynine Palms, California.
During Operation Iraqi Freedom,
his unit was attached to 2nd Marine Division,
II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward).

when his amphibious Assault Vehicle was attacked
by an improvised explosive device while
conducting combat operations south of Haditha, Iraq.

4th Marine Division, Billings, Montana.

Edward died on December 22, 2003.
in Baghdad, Iraq,
when an improvised explosive device struck his convoy.
He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 3rd Field Artillery Regiment,
1st Armored Division,
Giessen, Germany.

of Missoula, Montana
Kristofor died on October 19, 2001
when his Black Hawk helicopter crashed upon attempting
to land in Pakistan.
Kristofor grew up in Pennsylvania and went on
to attend the ROTC program at the University of Montana.
An instructor there recalls that Stonesifer left the program early with a desire to become one of the best soldiers in the U.S. Army.
